Klezmer. Scottish. Jazz. Latin. Chamber Music. Funk. What do these genres have in common? Find out when Ezekiel's Wheels Klezmer Band and progressive Scottish band Alba's Edge join forces for an eclectic evening of new music with traditional roots. The show takes place at 8:00pm on Sunday June 1st at Club Passim in Harvard Square (47 Palmer St, Cambridge). Tickets are $15 (members $13) and can be purchased in advance online at www.passim.org or by calling the reservation line: 617-492-7679.
Internationally-recognized klezmer ensemble Ezekiel’s Wheels brings passion, virtuosity, and contagious energy to every performance. The Wheels improvise with the intimacy of chamber music and the intensity of a rowdy dance band. They are equally at home on the stage of the International Jewish Music Festival, where judges heralded them as “a true musical democracy,” as in the classroom, where sixth-grade student Jonathan raised his hand to tell them, “Y’all got swag.”
Hailed as “a wonderful concoction” on BBC Radio Scotland and fresh off a US consulate sponsored tour of Mexico, Alba's Edge is ready to rock the house with their unique brand of Jazz and Latin infused Scottish music. The quartet is headed up by brother-sister powerhouse Lilly and Neil Pearlman on Scottish fiddle and piano, and is rounded out with the Latin/Jazz drumming of Jacob Cole and Funk bass stylings of Doug Berns. Their music draws on Jazz harmony and improvisation and Latin/Funk grooves to express the vitality, fire and beauty inherent in Scottish traditional melodies.

FIDDLE FUSION featuring Alba's Edge and Firecloud
On January 5th the Lily Pad in Inman Square will play host to a
multi-genre evening of music centered on the melodies of traditional
fiddle music enhanced with harmonies, rhythms and musical approaches
from a variety of other genres. Alba's Edge brings together Scottish
fiddling with Latin, Funk and Jazz influences to create an exciting
musical blend that BBC Radio Scotland called "a wonderful concoction".
Firecloud combines the driving beats of techno music with live fiddle
tunes and improvisation in a new high-energy sound. Their blend fuels
a mutual passion for experimentation and a thumping sound for hot
Headed up by pianist Neil Pearlman, Alba's Edge is Scottish music with
a heavy dose of Samba, Salsa, Funk and Jazz. The nationally touring
group brings together Scottish fiddling, Jazz/Funk bass grooves, Latin
percussion and genre-bridging piano playing to infuse traditional
Scottish melodies with new ideas without losing their essentially
Scottish spirit. Featuring Neil Pearlman on piano, Katie McNally on
fiddle, Doug Berns on bass and Jacob Cole on drums, their unique
approach has earned praise from Jazz, Celtic and World Music critics
alike and appeals to an eclectic audience.
Firecloud's combination of techno beats, improvisation and fiddle
tunes from America and beyond is a new sound that shows what happens
when two versatile musicians decide that they want to do
something…different. Julie Vallimont travels nationwide playing with
the contra band Nor’easter and helped pioneer a new live form of
techno contra as a founding member of the band Double Apex; Andy
Reiner has played worldwide with heavy metal, folk, hip-hop,
bluegrass, and Irish groups, and has also composed major works for
string orchestra. Together with DJ Nanocannon (Andrew Hlynsky), the
trio has created a coherent blend of genres that is sure to get you

VELOCIPEDE AND ALBA'S EDGE (formerly Neil Pearlman's Scottish Infusion)
Two fresh and exciting projects headed up by Maine natives will come
together on January 4th in a celebration of the vibrant Maine fiddle
music scene. Velocipede, the fiddle and mandolin/tenor guitar duo of
Julia Plum and Baron Collins-Hill joins forces with pianist Neil
Pearlman's Scottish/Latin/Jazz project Alba's Edge to present an
evening of high energy music to ward off the chill of the Maine
winter. Ranging from traditional toe tapping fiddle tunes to blood
pumping Latin, Jazz and Funk grooves, this is not a show to be missed.
As the duo Velocipede, Julia Plumb (fiddle, viola, foot percussion)
and Baron Collins-Hill (mandolin, tenor guitar) play original and
traditional fiddle tunes from New England, Quebec, Appalachia,
Scandinavia, and the British Isles. They play with a tight, close
sound, staying true to the tunes and bolstering them with with driving
dance rhythms and sweet harmonies. Julia and Baron met at Maine Fiddle
Camp in 2008. Once they began playing together, the tunes came
flooding uncontrollably out of their fingers. They played through the
day and through the night, played while the mosquitoes bit and the
shooting stars fell, played until the turtles and fish and herons
danced out of the lake and the sun rose. They are still playing.
The brainchild of pianist Neil Pearlman, Alba's Edge is Scottish music
with a heavy dose of Samba, Salsa, Funk and Jazz. Called "a wonderful
concoction" on the BBC Radio Scotland, Alba's Edge brings together
Scottish fiddling, Jazz/Funk bass grooves, Latin percussion and
genre-bridging piano playing to infuse traditional Scottish melodies
with new ideas without losing their essentially Scottish spirit.

on bass and Jacob Cole on drums, their unique approach has earned
praise from Jazz, Celtic and World Music critics alike and appeals to
